Three ideas to create an interactive mobile learning experience

Identifying the benefits of mobile learning in corporate training can be very simple. But beyond the obvious benefits, motivating your workforce to take away time from their spare time to do their training with mobile devices, requires a significant change in the way you design training programs. These should be:

    mobile learning

    • Exciting and capture the participant's attention immediately
    • Relevant to the daily work of your employees
    • Interactive
    • Easy to use

Creating an interactive experience with mobile learning!

To create an interactive mobile learning experience, we suggest using Web 2.0 tools that promote sharing and knowledge building among employees. Some we recommend:

    1. Podcast / Vodcast:

The podcast and vodcast are publications of audio and video on the web as part of a series of chapters or episodes around a common theme. You can use different formats, such as radio programs, interviews, tutorials, promotions, among others.

Usually, these files are spread on the Internet accompanied by a file called "feed", which allows participants to subscribe to the series and receive new episodes automatically.

These resources can be used for many purposes, some examples are:

    • Reinforce key messages from corporate management.
    • Keep employees informed about new products or changes in the company.
    • Spread success stories.
    • Inform the objectives or goals of a specific department.
    • Broadcast motivation messages for the team.
    • Show specific examples to train on various topics such as effective selling skills.
    • Publish interviews with clients where there is evidence of their needs and expectations.

Idea: You can develop podcasts/vodcasts on the latest additions to your product catalogue; this way your sales team on the road could be updated quickly. Short video clips can be a great way to support an important point or demonstrate an action.

    2. Blogs:

The blog is becoming a powerful tool to facilitate real-time communication between geographically dispersed people.

This resource allows, among other things, share experiences, publish success stories, publicize best practices and even create opportunities for discussion about new topics.

Idea: Create a  blog. Once you've set it up, you can allow students to send answers/contributions to the blog simply by sending an email from their phone (or any othermobile device). These blogposts  can include media if you want . Using PDAs, iPhones or other mobile devices, learners can have easy access to their blogs and check other people’s feedback whenever they want.

    3Social Networking:

Social networks are, without a doubt one of the most popular tools these days, so using them in training processes allows a better ownership of learning as it becomes more spontaneous.

With these resources you will promote a two-way communication, in which employees can participate and collaborate. They become very useful to create communities of information exchange in different topics.

Idea: Learners could take photos or videos as part of their assessment tasks with their mobile devices. Also, they could share photographs and information about best practices and examples.

    Mobile + Interactive Learning!

2.0 tools become the ideal resource for corporate training these days. In today's world, the formula for success in your training process is definitely mobile+ interactive learning.

With this 3 ideas, the advantages are very clear:

    • The capacity to have different types of learning content available, including video and audio from anywhere.
    • The possibility to collaborate with other learners, teachers, experts, etc. Basically, collaboration definitely increases the learning experience.
    • Mobile devices, characterized by their portability and multiple media friendly features make them a powerful learning support to include in your company.
    • It can occur in an informal learning setting, therefore it can happen all year long, not only twice a year. The use of podcasts, vodcasts, and blogs address this need.
